Optiem hosts Emerging Technologies panel...

Monday the 23rd saw the Optiem's reception filled with chairs as we hosted a Web Association panel discussion on emerging technologies.

This was the first time I have ever moderated but with a panel comprising of Chris Miller, Kathy Golden and Bill Hauser it was a fun. The event was sold out and we only had a few empty chairs come the night.

Some of the questions we covered were:

Are there actually any new emerging technologies or is it a case of "everything old is new again"?

Is the rise of the social web affecting how e-commerce works?

In a time of RSS, podcasting, and vidcasting, how do organizations need to change the way they view "ownership" of their work?

Will add-ons for Firefox and IE7, ad-blocking and content filtering through logged-in states in Search Engines, is the web becoming more a â€œme-centricâ€ place â€“ If so how do we cater to it?

One question that garnered quite a bit of response was "Are students being shielded from emerging tech in the classroom? If so how do we get them caught up?" and I think it wasn't that they are being shielded but that the tech isn't being used or taught. It's a little up to us, as marketers, designers and developers to get involved with the schools.

We touched on things such as Microformats, Microsoft Silverlight and Google Apps, but some things we didn't get time for were Second Life, torrents and gaming - maybe next time.

RedMatch, An extremely effective B2B email campaign leading to a Flash demo was the way to energize a new product launch. Optiem put the pieces in place with an integrated campaign that brought it all together.
Insurance.com had the name but needed the traffic. Optiem designed and developed interactive banners that cut through the clutter and delivered consumers to the site in droves...and they have the quotes to prove it.
Sherwin Williams wanted an online strategy that rewarded its best customers and drove offline store traffic. Regular email promotions with unique bar codes sealed the deal and painted the competition into a corner.
COSE, An interactive membership form that cross-sells, up-sells and just plain sells? COSE needed it to stimulate prospects and member companies, and Optiem designed and built it.
Podcasts, Optiem developed RSS feeds for quicker distribution of audio files over the internet.
